Router reset and now there is no internet

What factory reset removes, which provider settings may be needed, and how to restore Wi-Fi without guessing.

Quick answer

Start with the least destructive check, confirm the device state, and only then change settings. For this problem, the fastest route is usually: Confirm whether you pressed restart or factory reset. Check WAN cable placement. Find provider connection type before editing settings.

Before you start

  • Confirm whether you pressed restart or factory reset.
  • Check WAN cable placement.
  • Find provider connection type before editing settings.
  • Recreate Wi-Fi name and password after internet works.

Understand what reset changed

A restart keeps settings. A factory reset removes internet credentials, Wi-Fi name, password, port rules, and sometimes IPTV settings.

If the router returned to its default Wi-Fi name, it was factory reset and needs setup again.

Restore the WAN connection

Make sure the provider cable is in the WAN or Internet port. Then choose the provider connection type: DHCP, PPPoE, static IP, or another mode from your contract.

PPPoE needs a username and password from the provider. Guessing these values will not work.

Rebuild Wi-Fi after internet returns

Set a strong Wi-Fi password and use WPA2 or WPA3. Reusing the old network name can reconnect devices automatically, but only if the security mode matches.

Write down the admin password and provider settings before closing the router page.

FAQ

Can I undo a factory reset?
Only if you exported a configuration backup earlier. Otherwise, the router must be configured again.
Why do Wi-Fi bars show but websites fail?
The local Wi-Fi network is working, but the router may not have an internet connection through the WAN port.
